In our therapeutic engagements, we have witnessed how people have experienced distress over feeling broken and have struggled to fit in to what is considered “normal”.
What is normal? What are these ideas around normality that we are all prescribed to follow? How did these ideas come to be?
Narrative Practices support us to question these prescriptive ideas that have shaped our everyday living. These ideas make people believe that the problem is within them and that they need to fix themselves to fit into this box of normality. We believe that problem doesn’t originate in people’s bodies and identities but actually exists in these oppressive systems that dictate everyday living.
In this space we would like to gently invite everyone to explore different understandings and possibilities of neurodivergent identities. Narrative Practices support us to move away from problem defined identities to what else is possible to know in ways that are nurturing of people, their values, their hopes and their dreams.
In this workshop we will explore,
deconstruction of dominant discourses around Autism
stories of local know-hows generated in the Autistic community and their lived experiences
support therapists to have conversations that would be nurturing of Autistics
