Course Map

  • Exploration

    The teaching will happen in three explorations across seven months. Two exploration six days each which will be in-person in Kathmandu, Nepal and One exploration will be online for five days starting from March 2023.

  • Mentorship

    Mentorship is a space where a person who loves children’s picture book will share stories, experiences and insights into their love for picture books and what they make possible. An illustrator, writer, therapist, editor, librarian and educator will facilitate the mentorship meet once a month for three hours.

  • Assignments

    Assignments are a way for participants to share where they are in their journeys of the diploma. the assignments will be a reflective space. Participants will be expected to do three assignments over the course of seven months. Two assignments will be reflective writing and the last assignment will be a practice based project

Curriculum

In this diploma, you will be an explorer who will learn skills to read and make maps along with

Exploration 1:

  1. Understanding health and mental health in a socio-political context

  2. The narrative metaphor : what is a story ? What is a story made of ?

  3. Politics of Story and Story-making : how does the context influence how a story is told ?

  4. Resilience and its building blocks

  5. How to read children’s picture book from the perspective of mental health

  6. Reading as an act of agency

  7. What do I do when I go to a children’s picture book store ?

Exploration 2:

  1. Exploring Social-Emotional-Learning.

  2. Making Visible Hidden Policing in Children’s picture books.

  3. Experience Near Language

  4. DhukDhuk & Dementors: Naming the ‘you-know-who-should-not-be-Named’

Exploration 3:

1. ‘ Down the rabbit hole’: re-imagining preferred wonderlands future-backwards

2. Magical crayons, The dream machine and Expecto patronum : blurring lines in magical realism 

3. Travelling in between the pages: How to be a letter fairy

4. We’re never alone : Re-cruiting and Re-surrecting 

5. The wise old grandmother’s wisdom: doing imperfect solidarities. 

Who is this diploma for :

For practitioners: people who work with children, adults, families and communities in any capacity with or without a professional degree. It doesn’t matter if you have a professional degree or not. Or you are just a beginner or someone who has many many years of experience. Or you have an exposure to children’s picture books or not .What matters is that you love working with people and you are curious about finding practices that are informed by love and gentleness.

Dates:

Exploration 1: 13th to 18th March 2023 - 10 am to 6 pm (in-person)

Exploration 2: 5th to 9th June 2023 - 4pm to 8pm (online)

Exploration 3: 21st to 26th August 2023 - 10am to 6pm (in-person)
