Amrita
Amrita, is an educator and a facilitator who enjoys exploring nature, bird-watching and finding little reading nooks with the coolest children’s picture books.
She completed a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Mumbai University and a Master’s in Social Entrepreneurship from TISS, and is a part of the founding team of Apni Shala. Within Apni Shala she worked on designing and facilitating social emotional learning for young people and educators, building organisational policies for employee wellbeing and collaboratively leading the organisation with a team she loves working with. She was part of the DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship Programme from 2013 to 2016 and was a WIPRO Seeding Fellow (2017) that supported her journey in co-leading Apni Shala. She now supports the team as one of the trustees of the organisation.
Before founding Apni Shala, Amrita worked with the Akanksha Foundation and Aasara Home for Boys. Since 2013, she has learned to facilitate the Theatre of the Oppressed; attended the Diversity-Equity-Inclusion (DEI) Leaders’ Development training with the National SEED Project (Wellesley Center for Women, USA) and has facilitated Mumbai-based groups since then with diverse groups of educators and community workers. She also received training to be a Library Educator and has designed and facilitated workshops with young people and educators and mental health professionals on children’s picture books as maps to nurture social emotional learning.
In the past few years, Amrita has been working in Nagaland with the government school system on building collaborative and participatory governance and capacity building platforms for educators. She is also currently completing her diploma in Narrative Practices with NPI.
